Research note: Jamaica DEEP_BUILT 2026-07-11. Morris 2016 PMC4772313: 14% (confirmed 3-0) - a MARKED OUTLIER among the 5-country Caribbean batch (Belize/Cuba ~0.1%, T&T 5.8%), and the ONLY one of the 5 grounded in actual survey data (not religious-demography extrapolation). Independently CORROBORATED by a separate 2011 western-Jamaica survey (549 men, 14%/77 reported circumcised) - a rare case of two independent primary sources landing on the identical figure. DISTINCTIVE: Rastafari teaching opposes circumcision as unnecessary bodily alteration, consistent with broader body-integrity doctrine (hair-cutting prohibitions etc) - confirmed 2-1, moderate confidence (weakest link = dated 1998 non-peer-reviewed footnote). Same source frames Caribbean as 2nd-highest-HIV world region after SSA + cites 60% circ-protection figure, but NO evidence any actual VMMC program has been piloted/scaled in Jamaica (academic-stage only). Legal status
UnregulatedThis research did not locate a Jamaican statute specifically addressing non-therapeutic male circumcision. A 2023 UNFPA legislative review of sexual and reproductive health rights law covering 20 English- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean countries, including Jamaica, never discusses male circumcision at all — only female genital mutilation, which is a separate matter and must not be conflated with male circumcision. Jamaica does not appear on ARC Law's compiled global list of countries known to regulate the practice.
