Research note: Bhutan DEEP_BUILT 2026-07-07. Morris 2016 PMC4772313: 1.0% (confirmed 3-0). Vajrayana Buddhist majority (~75%) + Hindu minority (~22.6-23%, ~175,000 people, 2011) both non-circumcising. DISTINCTIVE: Bhutan's Hindu population is concentrated among the ethnic Lhotshampa (Nepali-speaking, southern Bhutan) β early 1990s documented ethnic-cleansing/citizenship crisis expelled a large share; by 1996, 100,000+ refugees (~40% of Lhotshampa pop) in Nepali camps, many later resettled in third countries incl. US. Presented as demographic-historical CONTEXT for current population composition, NOT conflated with a circumcision-practice finding. Muslim community NOT independently documented (honest gap).
