In January 2025 Mohammed Siddique, a former doctor, was jailed for child cruelty and causing grievous bodily harm after performing an unconsented circumcision on a six-month-old boy. The court described the act as a "gratuitous infliction of pain" and a "deliberate disregard for the welfare of the child." The case was directly cited in the Crown Prosecution Service's Honour-Based Abuse guidance (March 2026) as context for classifying circumcision as potentially harmful.

Somalia
A 6-year-old boy from Shaan Town, Middle Shabelle (~20 km from Jowhar), developed wound infection, urinary retention, tissue necrosis, and penile discharge 15 days after a traditional circumcision by an untrained practitioner using non-sterile, rudimentary equipment. The procedure was performed on four children simultaneously without equipment sterilisation between cases. The patient was referred to Dr. Sumait Hospital (tertiary, Mogadishu) on day 4 of rural admission, underwent surgical debridement under general anaesthesia, and made a full recovery at one-month follow-up. On 11 December 2024 an unapproved traditional circumciser severed the glans of a boy's penis during an imbalu circumcision in Bukokho Sub-County, Namisindwa district; the boy was hospitalised in critical condition at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital and the cutter was arrested.
