Penile necrosis after traditional circumcision, Middle Shabelle 2025 — 6-year-old boy, survived

A 6-year-old boy from Shaan Town, Middle Shabelle (~20 km from Jowhar), developed wound infection, urinary retention, tissue necrosis, and penile discharge 15 days after a traditional circumcision by an untrained practitioner using non-sterile, rudimentary equipment. The procedure was performed on four children simultaneously without equipment sterilisation between cases. The patient was referred to Dr. Sumait Hospital (tertiary, Mogadishu) on day 4 of rural admission, underwent surgical debridement under general anaesthesia, and made a full recovery at one-month follow-up.
