For the first time in my life, I feel gratified that someone understands...

I'm providing a link to a post I wrote over on Scholar which includes the full-text of a new journal article written specifically about us here in this community: "Potentially under-recognized late-stage physical and psychosexual complications of non-therapeutic neonatal penile circumcision: a qualitative and quantitative analysis of self-reports from an online community forum". It was emotional to read it; I was overcome with a sense of amazement that someone finally listened. If you can, I recommend everyone read it! The conclusion really struck me; it's spot-on: "These findings suggest that neonatal circumcision can have significant adverse consequences for adult men. Further studies to understand the prevalence of these complications will clarify and establish the magnitude of the problem. However, even the smallest prevalence of these severe complications is significant given that the procedure in question is by definition medically unnecessary, affects a person’s sexual or ‘intimate’ anatomy, and is performed without the informed consent of the affected individual." To the researchers: Megha Uberoi, Jasmine Abdulcadir, Dana A. Ohl, Javier E. Santiago, Gurpreet K. Rana and Frank W. J. Anderson - I'm sorry I didn't purchase your article from the publisher. I really should have, because you clearly put a lot of work into this. I just wasn't prepared that someone would have finally listened and spoken for us academically. I'm already so accustomed to reading these journals that provide a litany of reasons why circumcision "isn't great" and then end with "but, it's really a great thing and everyone should be doing it". To be clear, this was nothing like the usual garbage the American medical community force feeds us daily. So, from me and from all of us - thank you for listening. I look forward to reading more about... "Further studies to understand the prevalence of these complications [that] will clarify and establish the magnitude of the problem."
